Ingredients:
- 1 cup channa dal or chick peas garbanzo beans to us
- 2 big tomatoes chopped
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 green chili
- 1 teaspoon ginger/garlic paste
- 1 curry leave
- a small stick of Cinnamon
- one clove
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- pinch of turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- fennel seeds
Method:
- soak the channa overnight, then pressure cook it for 3 whistles
- in a separate pan, heat canola oil and then add cinnamon, clove, green chili, fennel seeds and curry leaves for 2 min
- add onion saute for a few minutes then add ginger/garlic paste and tomatoes
- let it reduce down to a paste, then add masala powder, coriander and cumin and channa
- turn the heat to low and simmer for a further 15 min, garnish with cilantro
This dish goes great with chapati, its a great source of protein and fiber, copper, folate and manganese.
